Supply Pastors

Good and faithful servants,

These challenging days have called much from us. We are thankful for your selfless dedication to Christ and to your parish. Sometimes when life is overwhelming, we need to invite each other to rest. Genesis 1 reminds us that each day began with rest, “there was evening and there was morning”. On the seventh day God rested from the work of creation. God commands us to rest as well. We know Covid-19 has complicated this process, but we thrive in the rhythm our Creator established. Please collaborate with other area leaders to allow rest for yourself and for each other. Below are some suggestions to aid in facilitating this process.

Consider:

• Utilizing Lay Leadership to safely facilitate worship.
  • During this period strong Lay Leaders may be your best resources for safe supply. Lay Leaders from your parish will be most familiar with the safety procedures your parish has developed and will often be in the best position to guide fellow congregants through worship.
• Collaborating with fellow Rostered Leaders and Ecumenical Partners to share a virtual message.
  • Technology has allowed parishes to be guided through worship by leaders from a distance. Consider partnering with colleagues from other congregations to provide the sermon remotely.
• Reaching out to leaders on our Supply List.
  • Parishes that are requesting in-person worship (either indoor or outdoor) must be able to provide their Parish Plan of Return to potential worship leaders. If a worship leader agrees to supply and the congregation does not follow the safeguards of its plans the worship leader has the freedom to not lead worship. Worship leaders are expected to familiarize themselves with and abide by the Parish Plan of Return.

Leaders on our Supply List have been contacted to indicate their availability for:

V = Virtual Worship
O = Outdoor In-Person Worship
I = Indoor In-Person Worship.

Compensation

The recommended compensation for a supply pastor or lay preacher for one worship service is $150 plus mileage according to the latest IRS accepted rate, and $50 per additional service (see the Compensation Guidelines for more info).

If needed, expenses for lodging and meals are to be paid by the congregation at the reimbursable rate agreed upon between the pastor/lay preacher and the congregation.
