“Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children, another generation” (Joel 1:3).

One of the best ways to engage folks is through the art of story. “Once upon a time…” “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” “A sower went out to sow…”

When I read stories to my grandchildren, they snuggle in close. When I share stories from the pulpit, people lean in. God created us as social beings, and stories connect us, engage us, and inspire us. Stories can also be used to help build engagement and support in our faith communities.

How might stories be used to craft a narrative budget? How might stories be used to conduct a stewardship campaign? How might stories be used to share what God is doing in our parishes?

Come and join me on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. for a free virtual workshop entitled, Using Story to Build Engagement and Support. GSB consultant Jennie Wolf Smith will teach us the importance of sharing “impact stories” to build engagement and financial support. Click here to learn more.
