Dear Friends in Christ,
“Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went through all the land of Egypt.”
Genesis 41:46
The story of Joseph is compelling reading. From his days as a slave followed by a stint in prison, God raises Joseph to be second in command in all of Egypt. The arrogant boy who once dreamed of his family bowing down to him, has matured into a great leader. Joseph is gifted with dreaming great dreams, and he is also gifted with the ability to interpret dreams. And what makes Joseph a great leader, is that he is fully aware of the source of his giftedness. It all comes from God. When Pharaoh asks Joseph to interpret two disturbing dreams, Joseph replies, “It is not I, but God…” (Genesis 41:16).
All of us have skills to hone. All of us have gifts to share. We may not be raised to serve as the second in command of Egypt, but there are places in our lives in need of good and Godly leadership, including our families, our schools, our places of work, our communities, and our parishes. We need good and Godly leaders. Today’s a great day to step up and serve. So, my prayer for you this day is that you rise to lead remaining fully aware of the source. It all comes from God.
