Year of Rest
2024
Time and time again God calls us into rest through scripture. We read stories of Jesus retreating into the hills, journeys being paused, and creation being celebrated with rest.
So what does it mean for God’s people to engage in rest?
Year of Story
2023
Our focus this year will be on learning and telling the Story of Jesus. A story that many of us have been learning and telling our entire lives.
The Gospel Story of Jesus matters, though many of our neighbors here at home and around the world, have not experienced the Good News of Jesus.
Year of Vision
2022
Our focus this year will be on God’s vision and promise to make “all things new”. At the end of the Book of Revelation, God paints a picture of a new heaven, a new earth, a new Jerusalem, and a new Eden.
God is in the business of making all things new and invites us to be a partner in the renewal of all things.
Year of Generosity
2021
Our focus this year will be on Funding the Mission. God has a mission, and God’s mission has a church, and God’s church is full of generous people who have abundant gifts and resources; gifts and resources that we are called to share.
In the Book of Acts, Jesus reminds us that, “…It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35c).
Year of Mission
2020
Our focus this year will be on the Mission of God. God has a mission, and God’s mission has a church. In Scripture, we encounter the Triune God working to restore and renew all things.
The Bible begins with creation and ends with the promise of a new creation. The Triune God is working to renew everyone and everything and invites us to participate.
Year of Scripture
2019
Our focus this year will be on God’s gift of Sacred Scripture. The Old and New Testaments are the written Word of God. Inspired by the Holy Spirit speaking through their authors, they record and announce God’s revelation centering in Jesus Christ.
Through them the Holy Spirit creates and sustains Christian faith, life, and fellowship for service in the world.
Year of Prayer
2018
Our focus this year will be on God’s gift of Daily Prayer. Through the power of the Holy Spirit we will strengthen the prayer lives of our leaders and equip our parishes to be places that are grounded in prayer.
Prayer is a foundational spiritual practice and a cornerstone to building a life of Christian discipleship.
Prayer has the power to transform people and communities.
Year of Grace
2017
In the New Testament Letter to the Ephesians the writer focuses on the power and the gift of God’s amazing grace.
One of my “go to” Bible verses is Ephesians 2:8, and this will serve as our memory verse for 2017: the Year of Grace.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).
