Harold “Jake’ Jacobson is an ordained Lutheran (ELCA) pastor who has served for the past 35 years at Grace Lutheran Church in Clarion, PA. For the past 10 years he has also served as Assistant to the Bishop of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod and as Director of Evangelical Mission for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Pastor Jacobson holds degrees from Jamestown Community College (Chemistry), Gettysburg College (Religion/Biblical Studies) and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. He is also a practicing certified Spiritual Director.
He is the author of Front Porchin’, a guide to faith sharing in the Appalachian Context (a published expanded version will be available as: Rockin’ the Front Porch, Lulu Press), Building Missional Tables, a guide to creating congregational mission strategies, and most recently Holy Talk: An Introduction to Scripture for the Occasionally Biblically Embarrassed (Lulu Press).
Jake also is a professional wood carver and artist. He is the owner of Tre Kronor Studio and together with his son they carry out a variety of artistic offerings in various media.
Bible Study Leader
The Rev. Walter F. Taylor, Jr., is the Ernest W. and Edith S. Ogram Professor Emeritus of New Testament Studies at Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University, where he taught full-time from 1981-2016.
From 2002-2016 he also served as Director of Graduate Studies. Previously he was a parish pastor in Lincoln, Nebraska. He earned his B.A. at Midland Lutheran College, M.Div. at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, and Ph.D. at Claremont Graduate University. He has also studied at Yale University Divinity School and was a Fulbright Professor at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 1988-1989. During the Spring semester of 2009 he was a short-term missionary for the ELCA and taught at the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, Egypt.
Professor Taylor has published more than 175 books, articles, chapters, reviews, and audio-visual materials, including his Paul, Apostle to the Nations: An Introduction (2012). He frequently speaks in congregations, at synod assemblies, and at continuing education events.
Wally’s wife Dyann recently retired from her work as a Library Media Specialist with the Columbus Public Schools. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in August of 2019. Their son Rick is a urologist, and their daughter-in-law Camille is an obstetrician/gynecologist. They live in New Albany, Ohio, with their two daughters Amelie (ten) and Lindy (six). Dyann and Wally’s daughter Jennifer, son-in-law James, and grandson Wilder (five) live in Los Angeles. Jennifer teaches kindergarten in Hollywood, and James is an independent film-maker who has also worked on “Dancing with the Stars.”
