Dear Friends in Christ,

“I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.

Jerusalem-built as a city that is bound firmly together.
To it the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
For there the thrones for judgment were set up, the thrones of the house of David.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you.
Peace be within your walls, and security within your towers.”
For the sake of my relatives and friends I will say, “Peace be within you.”
For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good.” (Psalm 122)

Yesterday I was blessed to learn from two Palestinian Christian leaders who shared their deep desire for peace.

Mr. Walid Nammour is the CEO of Augustus Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem.\

His mission is to provide medical care to Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. He seeks to build “Bridges of Peace” by working in cooperation with the Israeli medical community.

Below is a 2-minute video that highlights the work God is doing through Augustus Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem. Mr. Nammour wanted me to thank the Northwestern Ohio Synod for supporting the important work of this hospital through Lutheran World Federation.

Bishop Munib Younan is the Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jordan and the Holy Land.

We met with him at The Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem. When asked about the significance of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, Bishop Younan shared about the Reformation’s legacy as two-fold:

  1. A renewed focus on the Word of God (Bible);
  2. An emphasis on education.

The Church of the Redeemer is committed to providing an education to young Palestinians (K-12) that emphasizes, love, non-violence, and critical thinking.  “Peace is grown one generation at a time.”
